With the new year comes the end of a Year of Mornings over at 3191. I have followed and adored Steph & Mav's beautiful collaboration all year long! Some of my particular favorite duets are:






I'm glad that they have decided to continue this lovely tradition into the new year, with a Year of Evenings (to begin mid Janury). I'm also very excited to learn (via Oh Joy!) that Steph & Mav's photos are going to be published in a new book this coming fall by Princeton Press - congrats ladies~

I absolutely adore the feature on Amanda Peet & her stunning, seemingly effortlessly designed home in the new issue of Domino. I particularly love the two bedrooms shown:

I fell in love with the new Starbucks ad campaign upon seeing the Ski Lift commercial:



My love was then cemented with the Bear Hug commercial:



I think part of what makes these tv spots resonate with me so much, aside from the touching vignettes, is that the animation style reminds me of The Snowman (a very charming movie from the 80's - see below), albeit more sophisticatedly animated.

I made a mix CD for J a little while back, and got all into it and made a collage-y style case for it. The CD itself was quite a nice mix, too.

While I had some down time at work the other day, I found this article on A List Apart, talking about whitespace. The main focus was the use of whitespace in web design, but there was one section on ad design that I found particularly interesting...



The comparison between two ads with identical images & text (exemplifying poor use of white space vs strong use of whitespace) struck me as being very applicable to what I'm currently doing at work (designing ads for a jobs/classifieds type of newspaper). The image on the left looks pretty much like what we have to design to appease our clients...

But I'm not going to get into my disappointment just now - I'll save that gem for later ;)
